Global cultural platform Milk + Cookies Festival has announced its highly anticipated return to South Africa. The multi-disciplinary festival—combining music, gastronomy, fashion, and design—will land in Cape Town on 29 January 2027 and Johannesburg on 31 January 2027.
The announcement follows two massive editions that together drew over 50,000 attendees and generated significant economic impact, supporting more than 3,500 jobs across local production, hospitality, venue, and vendor teams during last year’s run alone.
Unpredictable Lineups Driven by “The Feeling”
After teasing the country with unbranded street posters bearing the tagline “Never the same sound, always the same feeling” across culture hubs like Braamfontein, Maboneng, and Woodstock, organizers confirmed that the festival continues its ethos of genre-agnostic booking.
The festival’s trajectory reflects its eclectic programming strategy:
- 2025 South African Debut: Headlined by Haitian-Canadian electronic producer Kaytranada, drawing 20,000 fans.
- 2026 Edition: Headlined by Atlanta hip-hop artist Gunna, expanding across two cities with 30,000 attendees and over 50 local and international acts.
“Never the same sound, always the same feeling,” says Chase Freeman, Head of Marketing at Milk + Cookies. “That’s the only brief we’ve ever had. We book for the people in the room, not for a genre, and they come for what the room feels like as much as the name on the poster.”
“We came here to put on a show, and what we found changed how we do this everywhere else,” adds Kevin Reese, co-founder of Milk + Cookies. “Three years in, this isn’t a visit. We build it with the people who live here, and it belongs to them as much as it does to us. The jobs, the vendors, the artists on the bill—that’s the part we’re proudest of.”

Milk + Cookies Music Week & Cultural Ecosystem
Beyond the main festival stages, Milk + Cookies will once again host its broader Music Week programming. The initiative features pop-ups, creative panels, industry workshops, art installations, and official satellite parties built in direct collaboration with local South African creators, venues, and cultural partners.
The festival team confirmed that South African artists on the bill will be announced first, followed by the mystery international headliner and full Music Week schedules in the coming weeks.
