Johannesburg-born rap-pop artist and multidisciplinary creative ZULO has released his new single, “meddie,” alongside its official music video.
Self-produced by ZULO, the track serves as the lead single from his highly anticipated forthcoming project, Something Lekker, set for release on 6 November 2026. The release marks his first new music since his 2025 single pack, Z.
Building on the feel-good bounce of fan-favorite hits like “lamza,” “meddie” explores romance, nostalgic charm, and modern yearning through a distinctly South African lens. Inspired by classic ’80s love ballads, the track blends playful sincerity with melodic warmth.
Bringing Back the Art of Yearning
Rooted in local slang, humour, and cultural identity, “meddie” embraces falling in love without overcomplicating the emotion.
“‘meddie’ is South African. It’s always important to me to make music that feels very South African,” says ZULO. “It doesn’t overthink itself; it’s about losing yourself to love. You know how they say, ‘bring back yearning’? I’m bringing it back. It’s inspired by those classic ’80s love songs, playful but sincere.”
The accompanying music video extends the track’s romantic spirit, setting the visual direction for Something Lekker—a body of work centered on themes of love, home, family, and cultural belonging.

A Unique Fusion of Hip-Hop, Pop, and Kwaito
Hailing from the south of Johannesburg, ZULO has built a reputation for seamlessly fusing hip-hop, pop, and kwaito into a signature sound. From the kwaito bounce of “Adawise” and the high-energy trap of “JOL” to the Afro-pop charm of “Smaak To Love (Lamza),” his multidisciplinary versatility extends to his eccentric, vintage-meets-contemporary fashion sense.
Having topped commercial radio charts while still in high school, ZULO continues to evolve his craft as a proudly Coloured rap-pop artist, taking local Mzansi sounds to a global stage.
