SAMAs Return “Home” to North West for Historic SAMA32

South Africa’s biggest night in music is heading back to where it all feels most at home. The 32nd South African Music Awards (SAMAs) are officially set to take place in the North West Province on 15 August 2026, marking what organisers are calling a historic homecoming for the iconic awards show.

A Return to the “Platinum Province”

Widely known as the traditional home of the SAMAs, the North West has hosted some of the ceremony’s most memorable moments over the years. Its return signals more than just a venue change. It is a celebration of legacy, culture and the province’s long-standing relationship with South African music. The announcement was made by the province’s MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Galerekwe Tsotso Tlhapi, who reflected on the significance of bringing the awards back.

“It feels like yesterday when we hosted the 28th instalment of the SAMAs here in North West. This province has always been a proud and capable host, and we are ready once again to welcome the nation,” she said.

More Than Just an Awards Show

For the North West, hosting SAMA32 is being positioned as a cultural moment, not just an event. Tlhapi emphasised that the return represents a renewed spotlight on the province’s creative energy, hospitality and infrastructure, reinforcing its role as a key player in the country’s entertainment landscape. The idea of a “homecoming edition” has already started shaping expectations, with the awards set to celebrate both music excellence and the evolution of South African sound.

Preparations Already Underway

According to SAMA spokesperson Unathi Gwija, planning is already in motion to ensure a seamless production.

“We have already begun extensive stakeholder consultations in preparation for the SAMAs. There is a strong sense of excitement and unity as we return to the North West, a province that has proven itself as an exceptional host,” Gwija confirmed.

Industry Buzz Builds

The announcement has sparked excitement across the local music industry, with artists, fans and insiders already anticipating what could be one of the most culturally significant editions in recent years. With its mix of nostalgia and forward momentum, SAMA32 is shaping up to be more than just another awards show. It is a full-circle moment.

The Bottom Line

Bringing the SAMAs back to the North West is not just about location. It is about identity. And if early reactions are anything to go by, this “homecoming” edition could set the tone for a new era of the awards while honouring everything that made them iconic in the first place.
