ABOUT LESELA
LESELA Fashion is a fashion brand founded by Tania Macalagh and Moeketse Mohapeloa. The garments are Afrocentric in design and look to express culture through clothing.
It was created from the duo recognising an opportunity and the tenacity to not allow adversity to stand in the way of their business.
LESELA was founded in 2018 after co-founder Moeketse Mohapeloa had designed an outfit for a wedding. When people could not stop asking about where the design came from Tania Macalagh suggested they take their creativity and innovation and start the business.
LESELA stems from humble beginnings, as a home-based operation which was bolstered by the inclusion of Lesela Braais. The braais served as a crowd puller so guests could be introduced to Tania and Moeketse’s creations.
Business grew at a steady rate,but no business is without its hardships.
After Moeketse lost his job, the company decided to stop operations, with a three child household it became impossible for the business to be funded. The year 2020 brought more troubles as a turmoil filled year, due to COVID 19, made it impossible to relaunch. However, with the COVID 19 situation still very much at play, a decision was taken to launch regardless.
The garments are inspired by a African traditional fabrics which have been merged with fabrics acquired from Turkey to produce a wide range of fusion fashion and a variety of cultural cohesive creations that look to both inspire and capture the elements and ethnicity that distinguishes South Africa.
Fabrics acquired in Turkey adds a unique twist to the garments and lines to be showcased at the launch in Melrose, Johannesburg.
Tania and Moeketse have been designing and delivering quality garments and have set the benchmark for the creative space.
