The Mommy Club’s Christina Devraj Sets the Record Straight on Drama, Diversity, and Motherhood

Get ready to dive into the world of glam and drama with The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice, now streaming on Showmax! This reality show takes you inside the lives of nine affluent mothers from Durban’s Indian community, and let’s just say, it’s been a rollercoaster of opulence, career highs, and, of course, some seriously spicy moments.

Among the cast, 26-year-old Christina Devraj has been a standout. As a new mom and the youngest member of the crew, Christina has been making waves with her candid comments and lively interactions. We caught up with Christina to get the scoop on her Mommy Club experience and what it’s really like behind the scenes.

How has watching yourself on TV been?

“Seeing myself on TV has been incredible,” Christina shares. “I enjoyed filming the show, and watching it all come together has been such a thrill.”

How would you describe your relationship with the ladies?

“My relationship with the other moms flows organically. I definitely bring out everyone’s true colors. I came on the show to add some spice, and it’s definitely done that,” she says with a laugh.

As the youngest mommy on the show, do you feel like that is a positive or a negative thing?

“As the youngest mom, there are challenges, but it’s important to stay positive and have a good sense of humor about everything. Being the youngest has its ups and downs, but it’s all about rolling with it,” Christina notes.

Is there anything you would like to clarify from the show?

“When I met Lenore, I was excited to see more diversity on the show. Our disagreement was over a question I asked about her Miss India SA experience. It wasn’t meant to be confrontational; I wanted to highlight how everyone, regardless of stereotypes, should follow their dreams.”

Christina’s comments about Lenore stirred up controversy on social media, with some viewers taking offense. The heated discussion revolved around Christina’s remarks about the challenges faced by non-Indian contestants in the Miss India SA competition. While some supported her intention to shed light on diversity and perseverance, others criticized her for perceived insensitivity. Christina stands by her comments, asserting that they were meant to foster discussion and highlight broader issues of representation.

Is there anything you have learned about yourself while watching the show?

“I’ve learned that I’m more resilient than I thought. Even when I wasn’t feeling my best, I showed up and gave it my all,” Christina reflects.

Do you feel like your fellow cast members gave you a fair shot?

“I think that whether or not the cast and I were best friends, we were all doing reality TV together and had to bring the spice. It wouldn’t have been as interesting if everything was just sweet,” Christina explains.

Many people commend you for your outspokenness. Where would you say that comes from?

“I think being outspoken is crucial. You can’t let people walk all over you. My parents have been in the limelight, and I learned early on that growth comes from being confident and true to yourself,” Christina says. “I am definitely delusionally confident and believe in myself.”

How is life as a new mommy?

“Being a mom to my daughter is incredibly empowering. She surprises me every day with her bravery and strength. There’s nothing more beautiful or stronger than being a mom,” Christina gushes.

What would you like to say to the viewers?

“I hope fans embrace the show’s full spectrum. The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice showcases empowered women with different sides. Enjoy both the sweet and spicy moments and remember that there’s more to everyone than what you see on screen.”
